Venue Overview

The Basement is a 100-capacity events space situated below the Picturehouse Cinema, right in the heart of York city centre. It is located on the main shopping street, ten minutes from both train and bus stations.

The venue hosts a mixture of events including an eclectic selection of live music, burlesque and cabaret, and is slowly re-establishing itself after the pandemic.

Its low ceiling and side-on layout make the venue incredibly intimate, with the crowds within easy touching distance of the performers. The Basement has a character of its own.
