Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print

Our superbly-equipped pressroom, shop and gallery is nestled in the tranquil garden of St Anthony’s Hall and overlooked by the city walls.

Become a member or pick up a studio pass today to access our beautiful press room and unlock a range of support and benefits. One-month and annual members have unlimited access to our studio during open hours. Our 5 and 10 session passes (3.5 hours per session) are valid for 12 months from first use so you can work intensively on a project or spread your sessions across the weeks and months. All options include bookable access to equipment and workspaces at the Centre; use of our house paper and ink; and technical support and advice from our skilled team.

Anyone can visit us to explore our shop, gallery and tour the studio but to use the studio please join our community or attend a workshop. We are open Friday to Monday 10:00-17:00 and Thursdays 13:00-20:00.

Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print is a pressroom and gallery nestled in the tranquil gardens of St Anthony’s Hall and overlooked by the city walls. We are just a 20-minute walk from York railway station and within easy access parking and bus services. The venue offers step free access.

Equipment includes: Vandercook SP15 (x2), FAG, Vandercook Universal I, proofing press (x2), Adana 8 x 5 (x2), a large Albion and an 1845 Crown Columbian press; RISO SF5350 with the colours aqua, fluorescent pink, sunflower, black, and bright red; lino tools, including bench hooks and cutters; Kobo 338 hot foiler with a 8 x 5 inch printing area; 100 cases of metal type and 115 cases of wood type; book binding tools and presses; IDEAL 6550-95EP guillotine; a large FAG light box; workspace; and a library of reference books. Free consumables include a full range of Pantone inks, foil for hot foiling, proofing paper, newsprint, cleaning materials (white spirit, gloves and rags), linen thread, and RISO masters.
